February 2010 12 of 12 - Shanghaied in Paradise

Credit as always goes to Chad Darnell.

The day turned out to be interesting to say the least. On a cruise spending the day at Castaway Cay (Disney's private island in the Bahamas)... As it ended up I got a bit of an early birthday present when our 7 day cruise turned into an eight day cruise.

6:53 am - 2 miles west of Castaway Cay, Bahamas

Didn't get any really good sunrise or sunset photos on this cruise. Always seemed that there were too many clouds. Note how calm the seas are ...no white caps, almost like glass.

7:22 am - Castaway Cay, Bahamas

Here's one of the stacks. Being a Disney cruise I guess your gonna see cartoons 24, 7 even on the big screen on deck 10. That was the venue that I watched the superbowl on. Now that was a blast, but would have been better if I really cared who won.

7:24 am - Castaway Cay

Were just about docked. Beautiful day, highs in the upper 70's, but weather moving in later in the afternoon.

7:31 am

Disney's version of the Flying Dutchman

7:45 am

Breakfast on the Topsider Buffet overlooking the lagoon.

9:35 am

Red Hibiscus.

10:21 am - Serenity Beach

The Brown Pelicans and some sort of Frigate were diving after fish all day. Here is a Pelican diving in. If you see the splash next to him, that's his buddy hitting the water just before he did.

2:29 pm - from our stateroom

There was some sort of medical emergency. Rumor has it that some kid got stung by something in the water and ad a bad reaction. The wind had already started picking up at this point, so it's a good thing they came when they did.

5:50 pm - on deck 10

Sunset... at this point they were struggling to either get out or get back to the pier. The wind was really ripping across the aft deck where I took this photo.

5:57 pm - deck 10 aft

A number of concerned crew members (Officers, cooks, wait staff, and maintenance crew) looking on as we struggle to get back to the pier without damaging the ship. It took hours, but they finally got it in after breaking at least three lines.

8:26 pm - Animator's Palate Dining Room

The menu for what is suppose to be our final dinner on board.

8:57 pm

Lamb tenderloin, au gratin potatoes, and string beans wrapped in bacon. YUM

Bonus Pic

10:04 pm still at Castaway Cay

Since we all got a bonus day at sea I figured I would put in a bonus pic. This is the atrium at mid-ship. as it turned out we tried to get out the next morning with the same results. We finally left Castaway Cay about a full day late. No problem though plenty of food and activities on board to keep all happy. The most fun I ever had on the 12th yet!
